Holocene relative sea-level changes and coastal evolution along the coastlines of Kamaran Island and As-Salif Peninsula, Yemen, southern Red Sea

چکیده

Geomorphic features (fossil terraces, notches and sea cliffs) from the southern Red Sea coasts provide valuable indicators of past sea-level change that enable quantification both timing magnitude mid-Holocene highstand. We demonstrate utility wave-cut in Sea, present U-series dated two locations on As-Salif Peninsula suggest a highstand ?0.5–1 m above mean level (apmsl) at about 5–5.4 ka BP. In addition, similarity elevations different Kamran Island relative tectonic stability, with limited influence salt diapirism. Comparison our data to other estimates highstand, glacio-isostatic predictions water loading (and deformational response) is primary factor spatial temporal variability some possible localized neotectonic overprinting.

Late Holocene Caspian Sea Level Changes and its Impacts on Low Lying Coastal Evolution: a Multidisciplinary Case Study from South Southeastern Flank of the Caspian Sea

Caspian Sea is the largest land locked water body in the world and has been characterized by significant relative sea-level changes since the Pliocene. The sea-level oscillations have strongly impacted the coastal areas depending on geomorphological setting. This study aims to investigate the impacts of sea level oscillations on low-lying coasts of the southeastern flank of the Caspian Sea...

Holocene paleoecology along the Blekinge coast, southeast Sweden, and implications for climate and sea-level changes

To investigate the Holocene vegetation history and shoreline displacement along the southeastern Swedish coast, two radiocarbon dated pollen, macrofossil, and mineral magnetic sequences were studied in the western Blekinge coast: Hunnemara Lake and Smygen Bay. Both pollen records show mosaic vegetation with grasslands, heaths and woodlands prior to 11,300 cal. BP. Pinus-dominated mixed forest w...

Coastal barrier stratigraphy for Holocene high-resolution sea-level reconstruction

The uncertainties surrounding present and future sea-level rise have revived the debate around sea-level changes through the deglaciation and mid- to late Holocene, from which arises a need for high-quality reconstructions of regional sea level. Here, we explore the stratigraphy of a sandy barrier to identify the best sea-level indicators and provide a new sea-level reconstruction for the centr...

Pleistocene sea-level fluctuations and human evolution on the southern coastal plain of South Africa

Humans evolved in Africa, but where and how remain unclear. Here it is proposed that the southern coastal plain (SCP) of South Africa may have served as a geographical point of origin through periodic expansion and contraction (isolation) in response to glacial/interglacial changes in sea level and climate. During Pleistocene interglacial highstands when sea level was above 75 m human populatio...

Holocene sea-level changes and landscape evolution on the northern Carmel coast (Israel)

Archaeological, fluvial and morphological features are used to reconstruct sea-level changes and landscape evolution on the northern Carmel coast, Israel during the Holocene. Between 8900 BP and 7000 BP sea level lay between 35 m and 7 m below present, rising at an average rate of 12-14 mm/yr. This rate decreased to 2-4 mm/yr between 7000 BP and 4000 BP, with the sea between –7 m and present MS...
